Meet the farmer
Arran was taught to compost by his grandmother at a very early age, and has always felt a strong connection with nature. If he wasn’t repotting his mother’s ornamentals he could probably be found just wandering around his parents’ property watching things grow.
Working for years on building sites he noticed the immense amount of waste that was generated and began to question his own contribution to the waste pile. Arran’s love of growing plants and all things natural led him to one day watch a Geoff Lawton video and it was like an bomb going off in his brain. Within weeks he had signed up to a permaculture design certificate with Geoff and on completion stayed at Zaytuna for an intensive farm course.
After getting back from Zaytuna he instantly started his own market garden and started volunteering at Sandy Creek Organic Farm while still trying to hold down a job before he made the big leap into full time permaculture market gardening. Wanting to absorb as much as he could he also visited many farms and gardens to not only get inspired but to ask questions about what they did and wouldn’t do again.
Arran feels extremely honoured to be the first Millen Farm farmer and although it has been a very steep learning curve, he hasn’t given up and pushes forward positively to give the community something to be very proud of.
